When you create an Acronym account, you will be prompted to set up a master password. Follow the straightforward steps provided during the setup process to create a strong and unique master password, ensuring your account is well-protected against unauthorised access.
Your master password acts as the ultimate key to your account's vault, safeguarding your cryptocurrency and all associated transactions. It is the first line of defense against unauthorized access and plays a crucial role in protecting your digital assets. To ensure maximum security, create a strong, unique password that is difficult to guess. Use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters, and avoid using easily identifiable information like names or dates. Most importantly, keep your master password confidential and never share it with anyone. Your digital security depends on it.
After setting your master password, you will receive a prompt to download your Emergency Kit. This essential document contains critical information, including recovery keys and instructions, that can help you regain access to your account in case you forget your password or encounter other access issues. Treat your Emergency Kit as a secure backup for your account. Download it immediately and store it in a safe location, such as a password-protected device or a fire proof safe. Keeping it safe ensures you’re prepared for any unexpected situations while maintaining full control of your account.
If you do not receive the prompt or prefer to set up your master password at a later time, follow these steps:
Go to the top-right corner of the page, select "Account," and navigate to "Settings."
Once you're in the settings, go to the "Security" section and click on "Security Setup."
At Acronym, the master password is a critical security feature used to protect your accounts and digital assets stored on Acronym. It serves as the ultimate key to your vault and is required for various security-sensitive actions, such as decrypting private keys and signing transactions. Here are the key points about the master password:
Security Role The master password acts as a gatekeeper for accessing the vault. It is used to decrypt a portion of the private key stored in cold storage, which is necessary for signing transactions without exposing the private key itself.
Account Setup When you create an Acronym Vault, you are prompted to set up a master password. This password is essential for securing the vault and is required to reset two-factor authentication (2FA) if needed.
Transaction Signing The master password is used to authorize transactions by generating a secure digital signature, ensuring that the private key remains protected in cold storage.
Recovery If you lose access to your 2FA, the master password serves as a backup to regain access to your account.
Encryption The master password is encrypted and stored securely, ensuring that even Acronym cannot access it. It is used to encrypt the private keys and other sensitive data.
Important: Before you open an Acronym account, check our to see if you are qualified based on your country of residence and nationality.
Important: Since there could be fraudulent sites, double-check that you're on the official Acronym website:
The Acronym platform enables you to interact with various blockchains securely. It is hosted in Liechtenstein with redundant infrastructure in Switzerland to ensure reliability.
The Acronym Solution consists of two main components:
Acronym Vaults ("Vaults") – Non-custodial, segregated sub-wallets for digital assets. Only the registered user has access.
Acronym Hybrid Chain ("Hybrid Chain") – Facilitates decentralized transaction processing and ensures transparency.
Each Vault consists of two partial Vaults and three separate security areas:
Read-Only "Hot" Vaults – Allow users to view assets but not move them.
Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) – Serves as a security layer between hot and cold storage.
Offline "Cold" Vault – Stores private keys offline for maximum security.
The Vault software ensures that neither Acronym’s staff nor third parties can access stored digital assets.
The Vault’s signature process cryptographically prevents unauthorized access.
Only you, the user, hold the private keys to your Vault.
Your private key is secured through your master password and/or multi-factor PIN.
Private keys are never stored on the Acronym Platform.
It is cryptographically impossible for Acronym or anyone else to access, modify, or sign transactions from your Vault.
We're here to assist you with all your Acronym needs. Whether you're a seasoned crypto user or just starting out, our comprehensive support resources are designed to guide you through the platform.

At Acronym we’re building products which bridge the future of finance to the realities of today. Our vault is the bedrock of the ecosystem we’re developing. Hardware wallets are secure, but inflexible and hard to work with for active trading. Centralized exchange wallets offer the most speed and flexibility, but leave customers vulnerable to the next big collapse in the crypto space.
Enterprise custody solutions like Fireblocks offer “insolvency protection” by settling trades directly back into your wallet, but at high costs. The Acronym Vault solves these issues. It’s free, offers equivalent security to MPC vaults, can connect to both CEX and DEXs and gives the advantages of a managed solution without sacrificing control. Acronym can never access your vault and move your funds. It's your keys, your coins, your control, no exceptions.
Acronym Vault is non-custodial. Instead of self-custodial solutions like Metamask or a hardware wallet, your Acronym vault sits on a server in Germany (with cross-country backups), behind a firewall which only allows outgoing network requests. Your Acronym vault is comprised of a few components:
Your “cold” storage vault. This is a Virtual Machine which holds all of your wallets. You can think of it as your hardware wallet, just sitting on a server rack instead of your pocket.
The “Hybrid Sync” orchestration layer which manages orchestration between your offline vault and online transactions.
The Acronym Vault app, which lets you manage your vault and sign transactions.
The Acronym Vault is built on top of the “Hybrid” ecosystem. For more details, check out our (very WIP) deep dive docs here: <Doc Link>
To start, the Acronym Vault will seem like a normal crypto wallet with limited functionality. Deposit and withdraw, that's it.
Once we've put the final touches on our UI/UX, the next feature we’ll be surfacing is the ability to sign Metamask transactions with your Acronym Vault (like you would with a hardware wallet or enterprise custodian).
If you want to see what we’re planning down the line, here’s a video of how the vault connects to external exchanges (which is also a sneak peak at the UI/UX of how our exchange will operate once we are issued our license in Q1 2025):

At Acronym, we prioritize the security of your digital assets. Our platform is designed with advanced security features to ensure your assets are protected at all times. Below is an overview:
1. Non-Custodial Vaults
Acronym Vaults are non-custodial, meaning you have full control over your private keys. We do not store your private keys or seed phrases, ensuring only you can access your assets.
Vaults are segregated sub-wallets, and our hybrid wallet system combines the convenience of centralized platforms with the control of decentralized solutions.
2. Cold and Hot Vaults
Your Vault is divided into Read-Only "Hot" Vaults and Offline "Cold" Vaults. Cold Vaults are kept offline, providing an extra layer of protection against online threats.
Transactions are signed in the Cold Vault and then broadcasted, ensuring that no one, including Acronym, can manipulate or access your transactions.
3. Encryption and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Your private keys are secured with a master password and/or multi-factor PIN. These keys are encrypted and never stored on the platform.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is mandatory for all accounts, adding an additional layer of security to protect your account.
4. Hybrid Chain for Transparency
The Acronym Hybrid Chain ensures that all transactions are transparent and auditable. This system links transactions across multiple blockchains, providing a clear audit trail for every action.
5. Threat and Vulnerability Management
We regularly conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and apply security patches to ensure the platform remains secure and up-to-date.
6. Risk Management and Compliance
Acronym follows a comprehensive risk management framework, including regular audits, compliance with AML/CFT regulations, and monitoring for suspicious activities to ensure a safe and compliant environment. These features are designed to provide you with peace of mind, knowing that your assets are secure on the Acronym platform. For more information or assistance, please visit our Support Center.
Once you have activated your Acronym Vault you will have access to three vaults—Cold Storage Vault, Trading Vault, and DeFi Vault.
Acronym's Cold Storage Vault is a key feature of its non-custodial, hybrid wallet solution designed to provide unparalleled security for digital assets.
Offline Storage
The private keys to your digital assets are stored in geographically distributed, offline Cold Storage facilities. This means that your private key never touches the internet, significantly reducing the risk of cyberattacks.
Multi-Layered Security
Access to the Cold Storage vault is protected by a master password and/or multi-factor authentication (MFA). The master password decrypts a portion of the private key stored in cold storage when you need to access your vault.
Transaction Signing
Even when you make a transaction, your private key remains locked in cold storage. Instead, a secure digital signature is generated, authorized by your master password, to verify the transaction without exposing the private key.
Non-Custodial
Acronym Vault is non-custodial, meaning only the user has access to their private keys. Neither Acronym nor third parties can access or manipulate the assets stored in the Cold Storage Vault.
This combination of offline storage and multi-layered access controls ensures that the Cold Storage Vault provides unparalleled security for your digital assets.
The Acronym DeFi Vault is a feature designed to enable decentralized finance (DeFi) transactions, such as swaps and decentralized trading, through decentralized exchanges (DEXs). It allows users to manage their assets in a self-custodial manner, ensuring that all transactions are done on-chain and traceable without being held in a commingled wallet. This vault is part of Acronym's broader goal to provide a one-stop-shop for customers, integrating both centralized and decentralized financial services.
The DeFi Vault interacts with other vaults, such as the Cold Storage Vault, but it does not get "Synced." Instead, it interacts with the Cold Storage Vault via Layer 1 transactions. This setup ensures that the DeFi Vault remains focused on decentralized transactions while maintaining a connection to other vaults for broader functionality. Additionally, the DeFi Vault is part of Acronym's strategy to offer users full control over their assets, emphasizing security and transparency in decentralized finance.
🚧 This feature is currently in development (pending regulatory approval) and will be available soon. Stay tuned for updates!
The Acronym Trading Vault is a centralized exchange that facilitates the trading of digital assets, including both spot and leveraged trading. It operates with a central limit order book and a matching engine, enabling users to trade a variety of virtual asset (VA) pairs, including VA-VA and VA-fiat pairs. As a centralized platform, the exchange manages the order matching and execution process, but it does not act as a counterparty to trades. The platform is designed with full regulatory compliance in mind, ensuring that all operations adhere to the relevant legal and financial requirements, providing users with a secure and trusted environment for trading.
Acronym Vault is not a traditional crypto wallet. The Acronym Vault combines the security of a hardware wallet with the convenience of managed solutions. The equivalent of multiple types of crypto wallets (like Metamask, Electrum, etc.) are embedded inside your vault.
To set up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) follow these steps:
Create an Acronym Account
Click on the "Create account" button in the top right corner.
Enter your email, password, and select your country of residence. Then, click "Sign up".
Set Up Your Master Password After signing up, you will be prompted to set up a master password. This is a critical step as the master password is your backup if you lose access to 2FA.
Enable Google Two-Factor Authentication
Once your master password is set, you will be prompted to enable 2FA using Google Authenticator.
Open the Google Authenticator app on your phone, scan the QR code provided by Acronym, and enter the generated code to complete the setup.
Download Your Emergency Kit After setting up 2FA, download your emergency kit for additional security.
Go to the official Acronym platform:
Reset 2FA via Support If you need to reset your 2FA, you must contact support directly at support@acronym.exchange.
Master Password Requirement You will need your master password to reset your 2FA. This is a critical security measure to ensure that only the account owner can make changes to 2FA settings.
Temporary Withdrawal Hold After confirming the reset via email, your 2FA will be reset, and your account will be placed on a temporary withdrawal hold for security reasons.
Create a Strong Master Password
Your master password is the ultimate key to your account. Make it strong and unique, as it is crucial for securing your vault and transactions.
Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Set up Google Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to add an extra layer of security. This ensures that even if someone has your password, they cannot access your account without the 2FA code.
Download Your Emergency Kit After setting up 2FA, download your emergency kit, which contains backup codes and instructions for account recovery in case you lose access to your 2FA device.
Monitor for Suspicious Activity Regularly check your account for any unusual activity. If suspicious activity is detected, Acronym may freeze your account for protection, and you will be notified via email.
Use Secure Devices Ensure that the devices you use to access your account are secure, with up-to-date antivirus software and strong passwords.
Account Recovery If you lose access to your account, you can reset your password or 2FA through the Acronym support page.
By following these steps, you can significantly enhance the security of your Acronym account.
In our beta stage we haven’t yet finalized how we’ll be surfacing this functionality to end users. Each Acronym Vault houses multiple wallet types to support multiple blockchains and platforms. These individual wallets sit on a more fully-featured VM than hardware wallets such as Trezor or Ledger. The plus side of this is that it allows us to keep our ecosystem extremely fast while staying decentralized—but it has the downside of making things like portability slightly more complicated, i.e. we can’t just encrypt your Vault VM with a BIP-39 and call it a day. Here are the two approaches we’re currently planning:
Enabling the export of private keys for individual blockchains such as your ETH keys.
“Cracking” open your Acronym vault—a one time procedure which would give you all of your keys to all your individual wallets all at once.
Acronym has achieved many regulatory, compliance, and operational capabilities, such as a regulated full-spectrum bank relationship/account approved as a digital asset exchange. It will exceed all requirements for SOC-2, GDPR, and local compliance frameworks upon launch. We also have patented asset security technology and contracts with best-in-class on-chain analytics and asset custodians.
Withdrawing cryptocurrency from your Acronym account is a simple and secure process. Follow the steps below to ensure a smooth transaction:
